To prove the concept, AndersonIS has built an Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) database with a very low startup cost. Normally creating such a database consumes vast amounts of cash, however the only cash outlay was to purchase a single external Firewire disk, two standard PC's and a small amount of network cables.
The costs associated with purchasing licensed operating system software was avoided by the use of a copycat version of Enterprise Redhat Linux called White Box and Oracles developer license.
